The Production Workflow

1. 01. Precision Mold Casting (Building a Solid Foundation) _ 30 Min. mold cast + 24 Hr. Cure

The Luxe Noir Bear begins with a carefully measured mixture of high-density craft plaster and water. The ratio varies by plaster type, but typically follows a 60:40 plaster-to-water formula. If the mixture is too thin, the cast becomes fragile, if too thick, air bubbles can form in delicate areas like the ears. The plaster is stirred in a single direction for about two minutes until smooth, then poured into a custom silicone bear mold in one steady motion. The mold is gently tapped to release trapped air and left undisturbed for 24 hours. Proper curing is essential. Rushing this stage can leave a soft core that may fail during sanding, foiling, or shipping. After 24 hours, the bear is carefully removed from the mold and placed in a shaded, well-ventilated area to continue air-drying naturally. This extra curing time strengthens the figure and prepares it for the next stage of craftsmanship. .


2. 02. Refining & Detailing (Sculpting Perfection by Hand) _ 30 Min. Refining & Smoothing Figure

After casting, Luxe Noir Bear is carefully refined through hand sanding. Fine-grit sandpaper is used to smooth the ears, nose, and body while removing mold lines, hardened plaster residue, and small surface imperfections.Sometimes air bubbles form during casting, creating tiny gaps where the plaster does not fully fill the mold. These areas are repaired with drywall patch material and carefully sanded again until the surface becomes even. I inspect each figure by both sight and touch, running our fingers across every curve to find details that may be missed under studio lighting. Any rough areas receive additional sanding until the surface feels perfectly smooth. At the end of this stage, the plaster base has a soft, silky finish, creating the ideal surface for paint and metallic foil to adhere smoothly and beautifully.


3. 03. The Black Acrylic Base Paint (Setting the Figure in Black) _ 1 Hr. Double painting + Cure

The Luxe Noir Bear’s signature look begins with a deep, rich matte black acrylic base. The paint is applied in two thin, even coats rather than one heavy layer, which prevents paint from pooling in areas like the ears and avoids an uneven finish. Whenever possible, the brush is moved in the same direction to minimize acrylic mark and create a smooth, consistent surface. This careful technique results in a soft, velvet-like matte black finish with no visible brush marks. A flawless black foundation is essential because it enhances the beauty of the metallic foil applied in the next stage. Without a perfect base, the final gold effect cannot achieve the desired depth and luxury. This is the stage where the “Noir” character of Luxe Noir Bear truly comes to life.


4. 04. Metallic Foil Gilding (The Art of the Glossy foil Texture) _ 1 Hr. Metallic Foil Gilding

Metallic foil application is the most hands-on and unpredictable stage of creating the Luxe Noir Bear. It is also the process customers are most curious about. A special adhesive is applied randomly across the matte black surface and allowed to dry until it reaches the ideal tacky stage. Premium metallic foil sheets in gold, silver, or rose pink are then placed onto the surface and pressed down by hand. The foil is intentionally lifted, cracked, and peeled in selected areas to reveal the black base underneath. This creates a natural, irregular texture that gives each bear a unique pattern and a deeper, more luxurious appearance. Throughout the process, the foil placement is carefully adjusted to maintain a balanced, organic look. Any excess foil is gently removed with a brush, while selected areas are pressed down firmly to enhance the final design and texture.


5. 05. Protective Coating Curing (Sealing protective coating) _ 1 Hr. High-gloss sealant + Cure

The final stage protects and preserves every detail created in the previous steps. A high-gloss protective coating is sprayed over the entire bear figure in two thin, even layers. Applying too much coating at once or spraying too closely can cause buildup around areas like the ears and legs, reducing the shine of the metallic foil. Between each coat, the bear is carefully rotated to ensure every surface receives an even finish. This final layer locks the foil securely in place, prevents lifting or peeling, and adds a deep, glass-like shine that enhances the contrast between the matte black base and metallic accents. After the coating fully cures, each piece is inspected under bright lighting to check for missed areas, dust particles, or small imperfections. Only after passing this final quality check is the Luxe Noir Bear approved for packaging.
